Don’t Take It for Granted
by Jacob Williams

Most of us like to live in a certain routine that we don’t like to break for anything. Day to day most of us can predict our next move. We like to do the same thing at the same time. I’m not saying that a good routine is bad, but when you do this with your life, you tend to loose the bigger perspective.  You start taking things for granted.

Not one person can guarantee tomorrow. Even as I write this, and as you read this now, we are getting closer to the end. The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.” Knowing this, how could we allow ourselves to do such a thing as take something for granted?  Everything that we have is a gift; even something as simple as the day. But we go about our lives saying things like “Today was a bad day.” Or maybe, “I wish today hadn’t come.” What else could anyone ask for other than another day; another chance to do good for the Lord?

Another thing we as Americans tend to take for granted is the “oh so forgotten” thought that the place we live is the greatest country in the world. Those who were born on our soil have no clue that the simple and basic rights that we have and are born with, that we take for granted every day, are not so freely given in the rest of the world. Take a look around, and glance at all of the things you have right now. I see a home, a job, a vehicle, a family, a God that cares for me, who I can get to know. Some people are denied all or most of these things that we tend to look past with greed and say it’s not good enough.

Count your blessings, and you’ll find yourself in no position to complain. Let’s face it. The only thing that we are guaranteed in this life is if we are baptized for the remission of sins we may have an eternal home in heaven to call our own when this life is over. Everything we have here is a blessing.  So be thankful, and don’t take anything for granted.
